On June 1 in Ha Long city, the Meeting event responding to World Environment Day and Action Month for the Environment 2025 took place, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in coordination with the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province. With the theme “Fighting plastic pollution”, the program called for community action to reduce plastic waste, protect the environment and pursue sustainable development.
In recent times, a series of policies on environmental protection have been issued and implemented, including the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 and the National Action Plan on ocean plastic waste aiming to reduce 75% of plastic waste at sea by 2030. Localities and businesses are applying initiatives such as biodegradable materials, recycled packaging, and circular economy models, but implementation remains partial.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Lê Công Thanh said: "The process of reducing plastic waste still faces many challenges. Although the legal corridor has been formed, the implementation is still limited. Waste classification at source is not yet uniform, many businesses are not ready to invest in technology due to high costs, while the habit of using disposable plastic is still common in the community. We call on all levels of government, the business community, and every citizen to take action. Do not be indifferent to plastic pollution. Be proactive in creating a green lifestyle for the environment today and for a sustainable future."
Quang Ninh province has issued many documents and implemented creative activities to respond to climate change and strengthen resource management. Vice Chairman Nghiem Xuan Cuong said this year’s World Environment Day theme has urgent significance, reflecting deep concern for the environmental crisis caused by plastic waste.
