2022 is expected to be a difficult year for the auto industry. In addition to difficulties in the supply chain, especially in chip production, the situation is complicated by the consequences of the pandemic and conflicts around the world.
Despite this, Skoda delivered more than 731,300 cars to customers in 2022. A positive sign when market demand remains high. Octavia is still Skoda’s best-selling model, while the Kamiq and Kodiaq SUVs showed good demand and interest in the Fabia and Enyaq iV electric cars remained very high.
“Skoda Auto has made efforts to face the difficulties throughout 2022. Despite the many challenges that the automotive industry is facing, we have focused on our development strategy,” Mr. Klaus Zellmer said at the conference. He noted the future will depend on a number of important tasks.
Electric vehicles and sustainability
One priority is the strategy to develop electric vehicles to meet growing market demand. From May 2022, Skoda started producing batteries for the MEB chassis module of electric vehicles in Mladá Boleslav, planning to expand production to a capacity of 1,500 battery modules per day.
It is expected that by 2026 Skoda will launch three more electric car models, expanding its range from compact cars to seven-seater models to offer more choices for customers.
Skoda is focusing on building sustainability into its development strategy across its entire production system, not only in the Czech Republic. This includes the use of solar energy recently installed at its Pune plant in India, which will cover up to 30% of the plant's energy consumption.
Expanding Skoda distribution network globally
Part of Skoda's Development Strategy 2030 is expanding its global presence. In India, Skoda increased vehicle deliveries by more than 50% in 2022 (growth of 127.7% compared to the same period the previous year). Skoda has also begun penetrating the Vietnamese market by signing a cooperation agreement with Thanh Cong Motor to distribute Skoda models, creating momentum for entry into Southeast Asia.
