How Škoda got its name

From Laurin & Klement to Škoda

Founded by Václav Laurin and Václav Klement under the name Laurin & Klement, the company joined the Emil Škoda engineering group in 1925. After the merger the Laurin & Klement name and logo were replaced by the Škoda brand on new models.

Octavia: Škoda's best-seller

7.2 million units by end of 2023

The Octavia is Škoda's most-produced model with 7.2 million units across four generations (1996, 2004, 2012 and 2019) as of the end of 2023. A modernised fourth-generation Octavia was due in early 2024.

A specially modified Octavia developed by the British importer produced roughly 550–600 hp and ran at the Bonneville Salt Flats. It exceeded 200 mph in initial runs and later achieved higher record speeds; the car was fitted with a braking parachute and extensive engine upgrades.
